January 12, 2008
Criminals have been installing Trojan.Mebroot, known as an MBR (master boot record) rootkit, since mid-December, and were able to infect nearly 5,000 users in two separate attacks, staged on Dec. 12 and Dec. 19, according to Verisign's iDefense Intelligence Team. In order to install the software on a victim's computer, attackers first lure them to a compromised Web site, which then launches a variety of attacks against the victim's computer in hopes of finding a way to run the rootkit code on the PC.

Once installed, the malware gives attackers control over the victim's machine.

Secunia Software Inspector

January 21, 2007

Sorry, I wasn’t blogging here since we’re busy for several projects of PC CLINIC.

Today I saw a free software inspector from Secunia.com. The Online Software Inspector inspects your operating system and software for insecure versions and missing security updates.

Click here to see the list of those Applications and Operating Systems Included in the Secunia Software Inspector

Secunia Software Inspector using a Java applet thru Internet Browser, no need to install any software. It scans and detects insecure version of software installed in your PC. After scanned, it will display a report. For those insecure software, it’s display with the links to download the updated secure version.

Secunia Software Inspetor

I tried to scan my PC. It seems my Adobe Reader is out-of-date. (Adobe Reader 7.x and older version have security bugs that may let some hackers hack into your system. Only version 8 have fix the bugs.)
